Marx-Herbstschule mit Podiumsdiskussion und Konzert/Party vom 24.-26.10.2008 in Berlin

Die Marx-Gesellschaft e.V., der Berliner Verein zur Förderung der MEGA-Edition, Theorie.Organisation.Praxis Berlin und das Ums Ganze-Bündnis laden vom 24.-26. Oktober 2008 erstmalig zur Marx-Herbstschule. Geplant ist, in Arbeitsgruppen die “Resultate des unmittelbaren Produktionsprozesse” aus den Manuskripten des Kapitals zu lesen und zu diskutieren. Der Text von Marx ist hier sowie in MEGA2 Band II/4.1, S. 24-130 zu finden. Die Herbstschule findet statt in den Räumen der Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung im Haus des Neuen Deutschland, Franz-Mehring-Platz 1, die Teilnahme ist kostenlos. Da die räumlichen Kapazitäten begrenzt sind, bitten wir um eine Voranmeldung [Leider bereits geschlossen]. Den genauen Ablauf bekommt ihr nach eurer Anmeldung per Mail. Die Herbstschule wird unterstützt von der Naturfreundejugend Berlin und der Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung

Samstag, 25.10. ab 19:30 im Festsaal Kreuzberg: Podiumsdiskussion “Play it again, Karl” - Was ist eigentlich Kritik im Sinne der Kritik der Politischen Ökonomie?
Teilnehmer: Michael Heinrich (Redaktionsmitglied Prokla und Autor), Anne Steckner (Bildungsreferentin des DGB), Diethard Behrens (Lehrbeauftragter Uni Ff/M und Autor), Christoph Lieber (Redakteur der Zeitschrift Sozialismus und Autor), Nadja Rakowitz (Autorin), Frank Engster

Anschließend Konzert und Party im Festsaal Kreuzberg (Skalitzer Straße, U-Kottbusser Tor) mit DJ KING FEHLER von der KNARF RELLÖM TRINITY, den SMALL TOWN GIRLS (Bandprojekt der Stella-Sängerin Elena Lange), Erich Lesovsky und der Sportbrigade Sparwasser.

Grada Kilomba: Plantation Memories. Episodes of Everyday Racism

„Plantation Memories is a compilation of episodes exploring everyday racism. Linking postcolonial theory and lyrical narrative, the book provides a new and inspiring interpretation of everyday racism in the form of short stories. From the question “Where do you come from?” to the N-word to Hair Politics, the book is essential for anyone interested in Black studies, postcolonialism, critical whiteness, gender studies and psychoanalysis” (Unrast-Verlag, September 2008).

“The combination of these two words, ‚plantation‘ and ‚memories,‘ describes racism as not only the restaging of a colonial past, but also as traumatic reality.

Everyday racism, argues Grada Kilomba, is experienced as a violent shock which suddenly places the Black subject in a colonial scene where, as in a plantation scenario, one is imprisoned as the subordinate and exotic ‚Other.‘ „What a beautiful N.! Look how nice the N. looks. I want to be one too!“ says a girl to Kathleen. Kathleen is schocked, for she didn‘t expect to be perceived as the inferior ‚Other.‘

This moment of surprise and pain describes everyday racism as a mise-en-scéne where whites suddenly become symbolic masters and Blacks, through insult and humiliation, become figurative slaves. Unexpectedly, the past comes to coincide with the present and the present is experienced as if one were in that agonizing past, as the titel Plantation Memories announces.”
